In April, researchers from the University of California, San Francisco identified three biomarkers that predicted a higher risk of invasive cancer in 1,200 women who had received diagnoses of precancerous ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Most women with DCIS are at low risk of developing an invasive cancer, but they treat the condition aggressively nevertheless because doctors cannot identify which lesions pose the greatest threat.
